Being...

Being...

Inner children lost their way,
Now they know the price you pay.
I'm holding on to life with you,
'Cos life without you just won't do...

Everything I do is driven by you.  :)

Wow, the snow is really making up for a few lean years this winter. We got another few inches dumped on us last night and early this morning... The office has a delayed opening this morning, as does Gina's school. Of course, a state of emergency, forcing us both to stay home, would've been even better...

Gina and I had a delicious (as always) and sweet Valentine's Day lunch of sushi and champagne. The roses I'd ordered to be delivered to her at the restaurant had to be rescheduled slightly, as my honey was running a bit late... but in the end, they arrived ten or fifteen minutes after we did, so that worked out very well indeed. And she got me "The Ultimate Matrix Collection" DVD set, which was just ultimate cool. No, maybe it's not very romantic, but she knew I wanted it, and I was touched.

Gina, Hannah, and I went to Casey O'Toole's last Saturday night for my roommate Jon's surprise birthday bash, which was very nice, even if we only knew a handful of people there. Jon was certainly surprised...! We think Hannah may have been trying to replace his girlfriend...

"Spamalot" was a blast and a half. The cast were all phenomenal, and despite it being the first night of previews, I only noticed one or two glitches in the show. Definitely a lot of fun, and probably even for people who don't know "Monty Python and the Holy Grail."

That was a long week for me, though, starting with the previous Friday, when I discovered that my external FireWire drive (containing my iBook backup, all my archived documents, and all my music files) was no longer accessible. I stayed up late that night and the next, trying to repair the damage, then I couldn't sleep well at all on Sunday night, got in late Monday night after "Spamalot," worked on the drive again Tuesday night... I didn't begin to catch up on sleep for a week, and I was sure that my raspy throat was going to turn into a cold. But it didn't. And the hard drive is functioning normally again.

NetBSD is booting fine on the Quadra now, but that's as far as I've gotten. It boots. Heh... I want to configure X and start playing around with the system, but I think I'm going to need a serious chunk of time for that, so I haven't started yet. I'm also allegedly buying a new Dell server from my co-worker, Michael, though he's dragging his feet about getting it to me. The FireWire incident made me a bit paranoid, and I want to get my hands on the server's 160GB hard drive and create a partition on it to store my files on, then back that up to the 100GB external drive. The server itself will come in handy for work tasks and maybe a little Web site.

Speaking of Web sites, I've got a new one. Well, there's only the one page up so far... but Mike also pointed me in the direction of a good deal on a domain name and hosting, and so I decided that it was time to stop having my album dominate this Web site and give it its own. And so JoyInTheNew.com was born... Over the next few weeks, I'll move all the album-related material there, fleshing it out a bit, and probably much of my other music-related stuff, too. This site can then return to the zany and slightly baffled reflection of me it was before I released the album and began the shameless self-promotion.   ;)

The next few weeks may also bring a visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art with Barbara, a visit to the Children's Museum of Manhattan with Gina and Hannah, and a get-together with my old co-workers Yesika and Rhonda (possibly accompanied again by Gina and Hannah). And other things as they arise... I saw Dawn and Dave after a looong hiatus last month, and it was good to hang out with them. We saw "Hitch," which turned out to be a really fun movie. And my parents picked up a couple of degus, small rodents I'd never heard of before which are very cute and sweet. We're hoping they're both the same gender, though, otherwise I may be asking you if you'd like a baby degu...!

And, on that note, I'm going to make a cup of coffee, since I don't have to be at work for two hours. No more snow...! No more snow...! No more snow...!
