Welcome to wherever you are.
My final word (until December, anyway) on the whole millennium deal is in the newly appended Y2K rant. I'm not going to get into it here...
Good to see that so far there haven't been any major Y2K or Armageddon problems. I wasn't really expecting the former, but I was somewhat concerned about the latter. There are too many freaks out there convinced that the End of Days is upon us, and too many of them feel duty-bound to do their part to hasten it.
Wow, Syria and Israel talking. I'm glad to see it. I hope they can work out their differences, though I don't expect it will happen all too quickly. It would be nice to see the Middle East in a relatively comfortable peace in my lifetime; the Six-Day War happened before I was born!
And on the subject of war, I'm really getting tired of this Chechnya situation. I did call the fierce defense of Grozny, several weeks before the fact... It's starting to look like the only reason this war is still going on, the only reason the Russian people still support it, is that they're unaware of what it's really costing them. Seems like the government is carefully monitoring what the media says about the conflict. Sounds, hmmm, familiar... And Yeltsin's surprise resignation may indicate that the continuation of this war is mainly to bolster Putin's public standing for the soon-to-be-held elections.
Public transportation in New Jersey sucks. I recently found myself having to take a bus from Nutley to Manhattan, and a second bus from Port Authority to Ridgefield, in order to get to work. Two different bus companies, and several mishaps and derelictions of duty. Very frustrating...
Resolutions? Nothing set in stone, but yeah, I plan to do a few things for myself this year. :) First of which is to get even more creativity out than I did in 1999. I feel inspired to write and to record again, and there are some old stories and songs lying around begging to be finished up. High time I put them out of their misery. I also intend to pull in a salary much closer to what I'm actually worth...
I have no unrealistic expectations of 2000. I had a tumultuous 1999, and while most aspects of my life have settled down since then, I have been made acutely aware that I should never get too comfortable, because my life is just not going to be that simple. "Better that your life be a blur than a blurb." My own quote, and I do believe it, though sometimes I do long for a slower pace... ;}
All right, 12:30 AM and I'm out of steam. Later... - A
