Oh, I want to be with you, be with you night and day,
Nothing changes on New Year's Day...
Welcome to Life v8.1, which we're also informally referring to as 2004. 2004 features many substantial new features, as well as old favorites you've come to rely on. We are confident that you will be more than satisfied with this upgrade.
I rang in the New Year with my honey, who was recovering from a viral infection bothering her digestive system; we toasted with ginger ale rather than champagne. Ah, well, that bottle of Moët & Chandon White Star will just have to wait for another occasion. It was nice to be with Gina at midnight and to start a new year, a happier and healthier year for both of us, with her.
Speaking of the New Year, I've got a few resolutions: I'm going to cut back on both coffee and soda, reduce some of the color from my language (I don't curse nearly as often as some people I know, but considering that I spend a lot more time around a child than I used to, I'd rather cut the cursing down as much as possible), and finally finish that CD. Lofty goals all of them, I think...
A few nights before the 31st, Gina and I celebrated four months of being together by going ice skating at Rockefeller Center, always a fun and wonderful experience. It was especially nice to be on the ice holding hands with my love, though. :) The knishes we had afterwards were pretty tanjed good, too!
The two of us also went to my sister's wedding to John Arlotta in December, a lovely event at which I convinced Gina to try sushi for the first time... and she loved it! We're going to have to start going out for sushi now... Heh. Gina helped me pick out my first real Christmas tree (a small one, but a real one), and we decorated it together, too. We also found ourselves under the mistletoe I'd conveniently placed over the doorway to my room a few times...
The last month also found me discovering the joys and the frustrations of war-riding. As my Apple iBook is equipped with a wireless networking card, it occurred to me one morning that I could possibly find and briefly connect to someone's network while riding to work in the morning. I was rather surprised to learn just how many wireless networks there are out there, and just how few of them are secured against such a possibility. Heh-heh-heh! Well, I wasn't interested in anyone's network, really, just the Internet connection. I learned that, if I was quick enough, I could receive and send E-mails in that brief window of opportunity before the bus pulled me out of range of one of those networks, and while I spent a lot of time trying to get this to work, when it did work it was well worth it.
Unfortunately, I won't be war-riding for much longer, at least not until I find a new job to ride to. The company at which I spent almost eleven years, AA World Class Corporation, has been bought by another, and my services, duplicated by an employee or two on their end, are no longer required. Gotta finish updating my résumé... Anyone need a computer guy? Hey, at least this will help with my resolutions; most of the coffee and soda I drank was at the office...
I do believe that 2004 is going to be a very good year. Getting a new job will
probably mean getting a better-paying job. I'm living in a nice apartment with a good friend,
near shopping and public transportation to New York (and Hackensack, Newark, and Hoboken, too),
within walking distance of a pretty young woman who loves me, and I've got my wits and my health
to boot. Sounds like a good mix to me...
